About
Welcome to The Old Corner Bank, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Sandown, United Kingdom. Located at 61 High St, PO36 8AD, this charming establishment offers an inviting atmosphere complemented by a diverse menu that caters to all food lovers. The vibe here strikes the perfect balance between a cozy local pub and an elegant dining experience, making it an ideal spot for friends and families alike.
As you walk in, you are welcomed by warm smiles and an ambiance that feels both homey and vibrant. The staff at The Old Corner Bank take pride in their hospitality, providing personalized service to ensure every visit is memorable. Customers like Andrew Westbrook have praised the attentive nature of the team, exemplifying their commitment to creating an exceptional dining experience.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Sunday roast. A review by David Mc Kenna aptly captures the essence of this dish: “Lamb was tender and the best yorkie I've had in a long time.” The Yorkshire pudding here is nothing short of perfection, fluffy and rich, complementing a beautifully cooked lamb that practically melts in your mouth. It’s a dish that sets the standard for Sunday roasts, and I found myself savoring every bite.
While the food is the star, it is supported by a solid selection of fresh, flavorful dishes that underscore the commitment to quality. As noted by Aaron Martin, the combination of delicious cuisine and a cozy atmosphere creates a culinary experience that keeps diners returning time and again. Whether it’s a casual meal with friends or a special occasion, The Old Corner Bank delivers delicious offerings at surprisingly affordable prices.
Even late-night diners are treated with impeccable service, as noted in a review by Andrew Westbrook, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and valued. It's clear that the staff here genuinely care about their guests’ experiences, and that personal touch goes a long way in the crowded world of dining.
Don’t overlook the wonderful local pub feel that The Old Corner Bank embodies. As shared by Mike Barrass, with friendly staff and a relaxed environment, this place feels like a home away from home. Coupled with local patrons who add a sense of community, it’s easy to see why many consider this an essential stop in Sandown.
For anyone visiting the island, The Old Corner Bank is not just worth a visit; it is a must. It’s the kind of place that transforms outsiders into regulars, leaving diners longing for their next meal. Just like Tina, who reflected on her surprise at the menu, don’t judge this delightful eatery by its exterior. You’re guaranteed to walk away with a happy belly and the promise of a return.
“ Lovely Sunday roast, Lamb was tender and the best yorkie I've had in a long time. Great little restaurant area downstairs, will definitely return. ”
“ This restaurant delivered a top-notch experience with its delicious, fresh dishes and cozy atmosphere. The staff was attentive and kind, making sure we had a wonderful evening. It’s a place we’ll definitely revisit for more amazing meals. ”
“ I arrived late for food, but PHIL offers fantastic hospitality. They give personal touches on your visits (eg changed the music without asking for our taste). Lovely evening! I will be returning tomorrow, thank you so much! Prices are cheaper than other places, affordable for everyone! ”
“ Great local pub. Great friendly staff never had any problems since me and wife started going in there. And the Sunday roast is just perfect ”
“ First time I've been in here even though I've been to the island many a time. We went in for food and a few drinks. Now I wasn't expecting what we got food wise to be honest. " Never judge a book by it's cover" I was blown away with the food. Fresh and so tasty. ( just shame I didn't take pictures) In the few days we were on the island this was far by the best we had! It was fantastic. I am just sorry we didn't go back there again before we left. We will most definitely be going there when we return. The food, staff, atmosphere and the friendly locals should put this place on the map! It was a great evening...and decent music . I highly recommend this place. A great pub without all the pretentious thrills. ”
“ Great local pub! Warm welcoming and great atmosphere in the place, Phil & Sue the landlord and lady are a joy and Phil’s sense of humour is fantastic, will definitely be returning when back in Sandown ”
“ If you’re looking for a truly unique and unforgettable dining experience, this is the place to be! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the friendliest barmaid, who made us feel like locals instantly. The atmosphere is quirky and full of charm, with a few regulars that really added character to the place – you’ll leave with a few stories to tell for sure! And then there’s the dog – an absolute sweetheart who made our night even better with its friendly, tail-wagging company. It felt like having dinner with old friends in the coziest setting. But let’s talk about the food – hands down the best we had all week! Every dish was bursting with flavor, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with love. Whether you’re after a hearty meal or something more adventurous, you won’t be disappointed. We left with full bellies and big smiles, already planning our next visit. An absolute gem! ”
“ What a find, super little pub, warm friendly staff; restaurant was compact and bijou, food was fabulous! Crispy potato skins with oozing cheese, steak, soft and buttery, garlic chicken - very garlicky but superb, chips were great, crispy outside, fluffy inside! I indulged in a taste but the bread and butter pudding was lovely. Highly recommend this place based on today's fare. ”
